Inspired director with down-to-earth outlook on life

On April 4, Fardem director Marco van Toor passed away after an unfair battle against the effects of an incurable disease. Marco had been with the OPACKGROUP since 2008 and was also a director at sister company Plasthill in Hillegom, among others.

Marco joined Plasthill on July 9, 2008, where he joined the executive team as general manager. Characteristic was his straightforward mentality. As a result, he put people on edge. More important was his way of connecting people and creating an “us-feel” throughout the company. During his leadership, Plasthill experienced great growth and became a technical specialty manufacturer of flexible packaging and films.

On February 1, 2019, Marco joined Fardem Packaging as general manager. The company in Edam had a nice assignment for him and here, too, he quickly brought structure to the organization. Commercial director Ronald Oud looks back gratefully on the almost four years he was able to work with Marco: “Marco was a down-to-earth Dutchman, who improved the work processes in the company by naming problems by name and calling people to account. He brought a positive awareness as an employer to the company and that radiated to the teams. We could also really appreciate his typical humor. We are now growing through various expansions at the plant site in terms of buildings and machinery. Marco was on top of that in terms of organization until a month ago. Apart from his role as director, we are going to miss him very much as a person!”

Owner Joan Hanegraaf has been in close contact with Marco all these years from the holding company. “We worked together intensively all those years. Marco was a man with an opinion, which he did not hide. We clearly both had our visions but we never disagreed with each other, we always came out of it together and there was never an improper word. Within the group, he stood for his team and the company he led. His legacy as an inspired director will never be forgotten in our management team and we will miss him greatly.”

Marco van Toor was only 56 years old. We wish his family, loved ones and colleagues a lot of strength with this great loss!
